BRIEFING

Numbers in the name: 173 of 3,461 vendor domains carry a digit, most of them up front

5.0% of the domains in The Wall's index carry a digit in the business name itself, from 10fold to droga5 to 2112.pro. 66 of those domains open with the number and 52 close with it.

The Wall's August 9 snapshot records 3,461 domain strings for a 3,460-listing index. 173 of those domains carry a digit somewhere in the name itself, before the suffix. That is 5.0% of the index. The other 3,288, 95.0%, spell the business name entirely in letters.

The Wall's index does not record why a founder picked a number, so the reads below are interpretation, not data. A digit at the front often functions as a multiplier or a shorthand, as in 10fold, 8020, and 120over80. A digit at the end usually turns a taken word into an available one, as in droga5, captiv8, and aptitude8. Four domains use a digit at both ends, including 2112.pro and 36.agency.

Set next to the index's other naming habits, digits are a minor pattern. 1,151 domains contain a descriptive word for what the firm sells, and 2,851 domains end in .com. Only 173 lean on a digit at all, which reads as an individual brand choice rather than a category convention.

One sourcing note. Digit counts are computed against the second-level label of each domain string, the text before the first dot, in the August 9 snapshot, which holds 3,461 domain records against a 3,460-listing total, a one-record variance carried through from the capture. The 66-domain start count and 52-domain end count in the opening paragraph overlap by the 4 domains that do both; the table above splits the 173 into non-overlapping positions so the rows sum to the total. Suffix-level and word-level analysis of the same domain set are covered in the top-level-domain briefing and the descriptive-name briefing.

How this was computed. Figures are computed from The Wall's index of approved, US-based, machine-verified-live listings, using the index snapshot current when each briefing was published: 2,286 listings at launch (August 3, 2026) and 3,460 in the latest snapshot (captured August 9, 2026). Engagement data (rates, minimum project sizes, team sizes, founding years, ratings) are provider-declared figures published on public Clutch profiles; they were present for 1,517 of the 2,286 launch listings (corrected November 7, 2026: earlier versions counted 221 records whose figures did not come from Clutch, and briefings that used them carry correction notes), and coverage counts for later snapshots are stated inside each briefing that uses them. Percentages of "disclosed" values exclude listings that publish no figure. Nothing in this briefing is estimated or modeled. Sourcing standards: editorial policy.
